Nowruz Celebration

Nowruz the celebration of the New Year and the arrival of spring

Nowruz, the celebration of the New Year and the arrival of spring, is one of the oldest and most important Iranian festivals, celebrated in various countries including Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and others in Central Asia and the Caucasus. This festival typically takes place on the first day of Farvardin, coinciding with the spring equinox.

Nowruz has its roots in ancient Iranian history and is associated with several customs and traditions, including:

  • Spring Cleaning: Preparing and cleaning the home to welcome the new year.
  • Haft-Seen: Setting a table with seven items, each symbolizing good wishes and hopes for the new year.
  • Visiting Family and Friends: Gathering with loved ones to exchange New Year greetings.

On Nowruz, people often go outdoors, set colorful tables, and engage in various games and activities with their families. Thus, Nowruz is seen as an opportunity to renew social and cultural relationships. Nowruz is not only a celebration of the New Year but also a symbol of solidarity and unity among different nations and cultures. In 2010, it was registered by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

Nowruz is a time for renewal, hope, and joy in people’s lives, reflecting respect for nature and life.
