Commemoration of Saadi Shirazi
Saadi Shirazi was the most renowned poet of his time. His exact birth date is not confirmed, but many believe he was born in 1184 AD. His father was a government official in Shiraz. History tells us that Sheikh Saadi spent his life in three distinct phases: 30 years studying, then traveled the world for 30 years, followed by 30 years of writing books and poetry, and spent the remainder of his life in solitude and contemplation. Saadi had a deep love for his birthplace, which is clearly reflected in his poetry.
Sheikh Saadi was a highly gifted scholar and held scholars, especially religious scholars, in great esteem. He used his poetry to guide leaders, kings, and rulers. He was respected by all for his good character and positive attitude. Saadi was widely admired by the public. He passed away in Shiraz in 691 AH and was buried there. His tomb is known today as “Saadi’s Mausoleum” (Mazar-e-Saadi).
